11 AM – NOON at CHRIST THE SERVANT

ALSO ON SUNDAY, MAY 17, AT FIRST LUTHERAN, WE WILL HONOR OUR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE, BRAD SOBOTTA, during our drive-thru communion which will begin at 8:45 am.  Brad will greet each attendee and will be handing out cupcakes!  Brad is the son of Chad & Stephanie Lukavsky.  He graduated from the Wayne Community High School this year.

IT IS TIME TO BEGIN MOWING THE CHURCH LAWN!!
If you would like to volunteer to mow the church lawn at First Lutheran please call Wendy and she will put you on the schedule (641-774-4875).  This ministry would involve mowing and trimming the area immediately surrounding the church building (inside the circle driveway) and sweeping off the sidewalks.
Please consider helping with this important ministry.

IMPORTANT UPDATE ON WORSHIP & DRIVE-THRU COMMUNION
 
Dear Friends at First and Christ the Servant Lutheran Congregations:
            I was looking forward to worshipping in the sanctuary on Sunday, May 3^rd, but have received a letter from Bishop Burk and other Denominational leaders in Iowa that encourages us to refrain from worship gatherings.  So, we will not have church services until later.
            We will however have drive thru communion at First Lutheran from 8:45 AM to 10:00 AM and at Christ the Servant Lutheran from 11:00 AM to Noon.  Also, we will again plan doing so on the 3^rd Sunday, May 17^th.
            While I’m writing you let me also raise the need of the Ministry Center – they could use Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Diapers, Feminine products, and Shampoo.  Please bring them when you come to Drive thru Communion or bring them and put your gifts in the narthex.
            Finally, let me encourage you to continue being gracious in your church offerings, either by sending your gift to the church or bringing to Communion this Sunday.  You have been very faithful, and I truly want to thank you for your generous support of the ministry at First and Christ the Servant congregations.
            I look forward to seeing you at Drive thru Communion this Sunday.

THERE WILL NOT BE DRIVE-THRU COMMUNION THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 26.  The word on the street is that it was very well received in Chariton, Corydon, and even beyond!!  We thank Pastor Dick for making this possible. 
If social distancing continues into May, we will plan the next drive-thru communion for Sunday, May 3.

We would like for the information that we give you in the newsletter to be as accurate as we can, so we are waiting to see if Gov. Reynolds extends the guidelines that are currently in place or if she starts lifting some of the restrictions.  Please be patient with us as we seek to restore the church activities.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL UPDATE:
After much consideration, the activities director at Homestead and I have decided to cancel VBS for June 9-12 with the Homestead residents.  The health and well being of all involved is too important to take the risk.  We will have the VBS program in June 2021.       Gayle Bortz
